Corn Ranch, Texas — September 18, 2025 — Blue Origin successfully launched its 35th New Shepard mission, carrying more than 40 scientific and research payloads into suborbital space from its Launch Site One.
The flight, designated NS-35, was an uncrewed mission focused entirely on research and education. It included experiments from NASA’s TechRise Student Challenge, along with payloads from Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, Oklahoma State University, the University of Florida, Carthage College, the University of Central Florida, Teledyne, Space Lab Technologies and Teachers in Space.
Liftoff occurred at 9:01 a.m. EDT. The reusable New Shepard booster propelled the capsule past the Kármán line, providing a few minutes of microgravity before beginning its descent. The booster and capsule both returned safely to Earth, allowing the experiments to be recovered intact for analysis.
The road to NS-35 was not entirely smooth. The mission faced multiple delays earlier in the year due to issues with the booster’s avionics, but after extensive checks and adjustments Blue Origin was able to proceed with the launch.
With this mission, the number of research and science payloads flown on New Shepard now exceeds 200. These suborbital flights continue to offer valuable opportunities for students, universities and private labs to test hardware and gather data in the unique environment of space.
NS-35 demonstrates the role of reusable suborbital rockets in making access to microgravity more frequent and more affordable. From testing new materials to inspiring students through hands-on experiments, the mission highlights how suborbital flights can accelerate progress in science and education.
