The final frontier just got a digital gateway. Come November 8, NASA introduces an ambitious venture, a streaming service that brings the marvels of space exploration straight to our screens without a price tag or commercial breaks. This service is more than just a portal to the stars; it’s an open invitation for enthusiasts and dreamers alike to engage with the celestial dance of the cosmos through immersive science and exploration content.
“NASA+,” baptized with the spirited tagline “For the dreamers. For the explorers. For the next generation,” is NASA’s bid to fold space into our daily lives. Currently accessible in its beta form, the platform—along with a redesigned and user-centric website—is a beacon of NASA’s drive to share the excitement of space with a global audience.
The hallmark of NASA+ is its seamless accessibility. Users can stream content freely, avoiding both subscription fees and advertising. The service spans various platforms, encompassing the NASA app available on both iOS and Android, as well as Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV. Additionally, the streaming platform can be enjoyed on the web, offering an enhanced viewer experience and expanding upon the legacy content of NASA TV.

Embarking on a Digital Renaissance
This initiative signals a significant shift in NASA’s approach to public interaction, with a comprehensive refresh of its online presence. Websites such as nasa.gov and science.nasa.gov have been overhauled to meet the contemporary demands of the public for a more engaging and intuitive online experience. These platforms are set to feature a robust lineup of live broadcasts of NASA missions, alongside a cache of original video material poised to captivate viewers.
The revamp is an exciting development for Nicky Fox, the Associate Administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA. According to Fox, the new streaming service and websites aim to foster a more integrative view of NASA’s work, from planetary science to solar research, offering a narrative that connects with the public in a more meaningful way.
Jeff Seaton, NASA’s Chief Information Officer, shares a forward-thinking perspective on the project:
“Our mission with this digital renovation is to embolden and inspire By delivering a top-tier online experience that resonates with the prestigious NASA brand, we’re significantly enhancing the way we disseminate our findings to the public, prioritizing both the accessibility and the security of information.”
Anticipating NASA+
While full details on the content lineup remain under wraps, the excitement for NASA+ is palpable. The platform is expected to extend the offerings of NASA TV, enriching viewers’ experience with additional live streams, mission updates, and rare backstage access. Regular broadcasts, such as coverage of historic launches and rover landings, will seamlessly transition to NASA+ from their current channels.
Communications chief Marc Etkind captures the essence of NASA+’s mission:
We’re transcending the traditional barriers of storytelling to share NASA’s pursuit of the unknown. The transformation of our digital space is set to better articulate the narratives of exploration and innovation that NASA champions, inspiring generations to look up and wonder.
As NASA+ makes its debut, it serves as both a milestone in technology and a reminder of humanity’s enduring quest to explore beyond our earthly confines. More than just a streaming service, NASA+ embodies our collective ambition to unravel the universe’s mysteries and bears witness to the unyielding human spirit of discovery.
