Mercedes-Maybach is venturing into the cosmos, announcing a strategic collaboration with Space Perspective to design a luxurious space capsule. While most space missions historically rely on fuel-heavy rockets, a new alternative presents itself, highlighting sustainability in space travel.

Space Perspective plans to harness hydrogen as the new way to travel beyond our atmosphere. Their unique program will feature custom-built capsules tethered to giant ‘SpaceBalloons’ using this eco-friendly propellant. These balloons are projected to travel at 14 miles per hour, reaching altitudes of up to 100,000 feet (30 km). Each six-hour journey comprises two hours ascending through the atmosphere, two hours floating in space, and two hours descending back to Earth, all without the traditional rocket fuel.

Maybach’s involvement is not limited to the skies. On the ground, Maybach EQS fleet will transport guests and crews to the launch site and up to the pressurized capsule. This space vessel, designed entirely by Space Perspective, will boast six luxury seats overlooking vast windows – the largest on any spacecraft to date, a central bar, and even a restroom. In future designs, Maybach aims to add its distinctive luxurious touch to each capsule’s interiors.
